U.S. Steel’s board approved a $350 million blast furnace reline at its Gary Works, a cornerstone of its domestic capacity upgrade and decarbonization drive. The project will extend the furnace’s lifespan by 15–20 years, boost efficiency by 12%, and cut annual CO₂emissions by 800,000 metric tons. It aligns with U.S. manufacturing policy and 50% tariff protection, enabling Gary Works to supply high-quality steel to auto and infrastructure sectors while supporting 3,000 local jobs during construction.
