On July 18, 2025, HBIS Group announced the signing of a landmark 10,000-tonne export order for hydrogen-based green steel, destined for an Italian end customer by the end of August. This milestone transaction marks a significant leap in the global competitiveness of China’s green steel sector and offers a viable strategy for Chinese steel enterprises to navigate the challenges posed by the EU’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) and carbon tariffs.

Leveraging its competitive hydrogen metallurgy green steel industrial chain and the HBIS Ducor platform, the group has intensified efforts to expand overseas terminal markets, with a particular focus on Europe’s policy and demand characteristics. During pre-order commercial and technical negotiations, HBIS conducted precise full-life-cycle carbon footprint accounting to meet the Italian customer’s stringent supply chain carbon requirements and provided an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) certificate. The green steel supplied under this order achieves a 50% reduction in carbon emissions per tonne, marking the first time HBIS has surpassed the 10,000-tonne threshold for green steel exports— a clear indication of international recognition for the value of its low-carbon products.

HBIS stated that it will further explore opportunities to co-build a green and low-carbon steel supply chain with global customers, aiming to achieve new breakthroughs in the internationalization of low-carbon products. The order underscores the growing demand for carbon-neutral steel in European markets and demonstrates how investments in hydrogen metallurgy technology can enhance export competitiveness amid tightening global carbon regulations.
